TExES Exam – Texas Teacher Certification Programs
There are various types of Texas teacher certification programs:
- Initial – a bachelors degree program with student teaching
- University Post Baccalaureate – a program that you can take after earning a bachelor’s degree in order to obtain certification
- Alternative Certification Program – a nontraditional Educator Preparation Program which may include additional course work, professional development, and/or mentoring and supervision
Your Educator Preparation Program will give you more information about which program to follow.
The EPP can also provide approval for you to take your certification test.
Out-of-State/Out-of-Country Applicants
If you are a certified teacher in another state or country and want to be certified in the same subject area, the TEA must review your teaching credentials.
To begin the review process, go to the TEA website and create a profile. Then prepare the application online and submit the supporting documents by postal mail to TEA.
When your credentials have been reviewed, you will be sent information telling you which tests you need to take and how to register.
Certification-by-Exam Candidates
If you have a bachelor’s degree and a Texas teaching certificate, you can add certification areas in different subjects by successfully taking the examination for the area you wish to add.
