Oklahoma Teaching Certificate – Testing
If you want to get an Oklahoma teaching certificate, you will need to take tests in the following areas:
- general education
- subject area knowledge
- principles of basic professional education
Oklahoma Teaching Certificate – CEOE
In order to apply for a Oklahoma teaching certificate, you will need to take the Certification Examinations for Oklahoma Educators (CEOE).
The CEOE examinations include:
- Oklahoma General Education Test (OGET)
- Oklahoma Professional Teaching Examination (OPTE)
- Oklahoma Subject Area Tests (OSAT)
The purpose of the CEOE tests is to check that you have the necessary knowledge and skills to be a teacher in the Oklahoma school system.
Oklahoma General Education Test (OGET):
The OGET assesses general education knowledge and skills, such as critical thinking, communication, and mathematical calculation.
The OGET test contains 100 multiple-choice questions and one writing assignment.
OGET test skills are based on state core general education knowledge and skills.
Oklahoma Professional Teaching Examination (OPTE):
You will need to take the OPTE if you are applying for your first Oklahoma teaching certificate.
The OPTE includes 75 multiple-choice questions and three written tasks.
OPTE test skills are based on the Oklahoma General Competencies for Teacher Licensure and Certification.
Oklahoma Subject Area Tests (OSAT):
The OSAT is a subject-area knowledge test.
OSATs normally contain 80 multiple-choice questions and a written task.
OSAT test skills are based on the Oklahoma Subject-Matter Competencies and national standards for subject-area knowledge.
All skill areas are reviewed by committees of Oklahoma educators.

The Oklahoma Commission for Teacher Preparation (OCTP) has developed the Oklahoma teacher certification evaluation system.
