Nevada Teaching License – Testing

If you want to get a Nevada teaching license, you will have to take the following Praxis exams:

  • Praxis Core Basic Skills Tests
  • Principles of Learning and Teaching Test (PLT)
  • Praxis Subject Area Exams for each teaching area

The Praxis Core test  is usually taken in the computer-based format.

The PLT is required for all areas, depending on the grade level that the you want to teach.


Certain Praxis subject area exams will contain both multiple-choice and short-answer tests.

Nevada Teaching License – Other Requirements

The following requirements apply to all teachers who want to work in the State of Nevada:

  • You must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States
  • Degrees and course credits must be from accredited colleges or universities
  • You have to successfully pass the Praxis exams indicated above

A license is issued based on the evaluation of your official college or university transcripts.

You have to complete student teaching to qualify for a Nevada teaching license.

Nevada Teaching License – Other Applicants

If you are from out of state, you will need to provide the qualifications from the other state.

If you are a foreign applicant, you need to submit your transcripts with an original course-by-course and degree equivalency evaluation.

The foreign degree evaluation must be done by an approved evaluation service before you apply.

Nevada Teaching License – General Advice

If you want to qualify for a Nevada teaching license, you can do so based on completing a teacher education program at an accredited college or university.

You are encouraged to review the requirements for your area before applying.

If it is your first Nevada teaching license, you need to submit an initial application.


The initial  application must be completed even if you hold an educator license from another state.
