English Test

Taking an English test is an important part of applying for admission to college or university.

You may need to take an English placement test as part of the ACT or SAT if you are applying for college this fall.

These types of English tests will evaluate your grammar, punctuation, sentence construction, and style.

The English tests on these exams usually assess your sentence skills, so they will have sentence correction questions, as well as sentence completion and sentence transformation questions.

Sentence correction questions show a sentence that has an error. You have to choose the answer that corrects the error in the sentence.

For sentence completion questions, you will have to choose the phrase that best completes the sentence provided.

Sentence transformation questions test your ability to reconstruct sentences in English. You will see a sentence, and you will then need to select the best re-write of that sentence from the options provided.

Most of the questions on the ACT and SAT English tests will be multiple choice, so you will select the best answer from the options provided.

If you are an international student, you may need to take an English proficiency test such as the IELTS or the FCE.

English tests like the FCE (First Certificate) and the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) evaluate your English grammar and vocabulary.

In addition, you may need to take a reading test as part of your English placement.
