Teaching in Delaware – Testing
If you are interested in teaching in Delaware, you will need a Delaware teaching license.
In order to get your license, you will have to take the Praxis Core test.
Teaching in Delaware – Initial License
To get your first license for teaching in Delaware you will need to:
- hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university
- complete a student teaching program
There are two possible alternatives to the student teaching requirement mentioned above.
The first alternative is to complete a state-approved alternative route.
The other possible alternative is to have one year of teaching experience in a Delaware school.
Teaching in Delaware from Out of State
Those teaching in Delaware with a current out-of-state license can apply for a reciprocal license with Delaware.
Certified teachers from out of state are exempt from the Praxis Core testing requirement.
You can also avoid taking the Praxis Core if you have qualifying scores on certain other certification examinations.
Other certification exams may be accepted if the testing was completed before you started teaching.
In Delaware, teachers must also pass the Praxis subject area tests for each teaching area.

How to Apply for your Delaware Teaching License
Teachers must register online and apply through the Delaware Educator Data System (DEEDS).
All teachers need to send official transcripts and test scores to the Delaware Department of Education.
