Connecticut Teaching License – Exemptions

There are some exemptions to teacher assessment in Connecticut.

If you are an out-of-state teacher, you may be exempt from taking the tests mentioned above.

You will get an exemption if you have a valid certificate in another state, and you also have one of the following:

  • three years of successful experience in the same state within the past ten years
  • a Master’s degree in the your academic subject area

Pedagogical degrees in the subject area do not meet the requirements for the exemption.

Out-of-state teachers can also apply for a one-year interim certificate.

These interim teaching certificates are issued with a deferral of the testing requirements.

A certificate issued with a testing deferral is nonrenewable.

If you recieve an interim certificate, you need to take and pass your tests by the time your interim certificate expires.
